We're Looking for Our Next Leader!

The Rutland Community Cupboard is looking for an Executive Director with a passion for making a difference in the community. This full-time, salaried position includes benefits and leave time. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and manages all operations in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the organization. A successful candidate would have leadership experience managing a community food shelf , non-profit organization or other similar human service organization.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director is responsible for the general operation and management of the Rutland Community Cupboard, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Rutland Community Cupboard serves Rutland County and Southern Vermont through the promotion of our sole mission of feeding our neighbors in need. Essential duties range from the day-to-day operations of a food shelf to executive-level functions performed in collaboration with our partners and the Board of Directors. Key functions include managing all activities that support the customer experience and the sustainability of the organization. This position includes a full-time salary with paid leave and benefits. The preferred candidate will have leadership experience running a non-profit organization (or commensurate management skills) along with a passion for making a difference in the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plan, implement, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the specific services offered by the Rutland Community Cupboard.
  • Actively leads, participates in, and manages all functions, services, and activities of the Rutland Community Cupboard, including providing direct service to customers.
  • Maintains a healthy, safe, and code-compliant environment for all staff and consumers
  • Evaluates and responds effectively to all customer service needs at the Cupboard
  • Ensures the Cupboard is organized and well-stocked
  • Oversight and tracking of purchases and disbursements of food items
  • Direct and participate in all food and fundraising activities that benefit the Cupboard. These include, but are not limited to: Stamp Out Hunger, Stuff-A-Bus, GMP Food Challenge, Celebrity Server Fundraiser, Newlywed Game at the Paramount, and Annual Appeal
  • Represents and elevates the visibility of the Cupboard at all events and throughout the community.
  • Promotes the Cupboard’s mission in the community through ongoing marketing, media, and public relations activities.
  • Develops harmonious relationships will all Board Members, volunteers, customers, partners, and related organizations.
  • Maintains annual and other reports for USDA, VT Foodbank, and/or other essential partnerships.
  • Attends all Board of Directors Meetings and presents a monthly “Director’s Report” summarizing the activities of the Cupboard and food or fundraising events from the prior month.
  • Carries out the policies, procedures, and other decisions as directed by the Board of Directors.
  • Keeps abreast of relevant social services available through public, private, and community-based organizations and develops procedures to communicate the availability of these services to the customers.
Plan, Develop, and Manage all budgets, schedules, and operations of the Rutland Community Cupboard Responsible for implementing the annual operating budget.
  • Maintains paperwork, receipts, invoices and other Cupboard paperwork and documentation in an organized and collaborative manner.
  • Develop reports as needed for the Board of Directors or other organizations.
  • Recruit, orient, train, assist and oversee all-volunteer staff for the Cupboard.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to volunteer staff on an ongoing basis. This includes regularly praising and motivating volunteer staff.
  • Develop volunteer staff schedule to ensure adequate coverage to operate the Cupboard during the determined days and hours of operation.
Research and pursue grants and other funding opportunities to benefit the Rutland Community Cupboard. * Focuses on the long-term sustainability of the organization
  • Seeks information on grants and other funding opportunities
  • Completes application or provides other information necessary to become eligible to receive funding.
  • Monitors and follows up on the applications to determine the outcome.
  • Reports all such activity to the Board of Directors on a monthly basis.
  • Networks with other organizations and community members to develop and preserve positive relationships that may lead to future donations, grants, or other funding opportunities.
  • Assist with established fundraising events and other donation and food-seeking drives.
Physical Demands for the daily operation of the Rutland Community Cupboard
  • Lift, manipulate and move food packages weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Maneuver necessary equipment including storage, office, and inventory-related tools
  • Communicate effectively (verbal and non-verbal) with all stakeholders

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, human services, or other appropriate disciplines (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Minimum Experience
  • 2+ years of related work experience in managing a community food shelf, non-profit organization, or other similar human services organization.
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • Valid VT Driver’s License required.
  • Must be SafeServe certified or become certified within 3 months of hire.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Proven business management skills necessary to run a busy and growing community food shelf.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to interact with a wide variety of customers, volunteer staff, community agencies, board members, and others.
  • Supervisory experience, preferably with volunteer staff.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and conflicts involving multiple views.
  • Excellent verbal, phone, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong mathematic and financial skills.
  • Strong information technology skills.
  • Ability to compile and interpret data to support operational needs.
  • Must be, or become, familiar with the relevant services of other public, private, and community-based social services and their respective eligibility requirements.
